Future Technologies Solutions

This research stream includes the evaluation of autonomous vehicle (AV) and other cutting-edge technologies such as: micro-mobility, vertical launch, shared vehicles, autonomous buses and more and their transport and social implications. We investigate how these technologies can reduce the use and demand for private cars, increase public transport mode share, and support disadvantaged communities. Specifically, we examine how and what type of cutting-edge technologies system to deploy to support sustainable scenarios, whether these will lead to increase in total vehicle-km travelled, improving first-last mile connections or improve the accessibility of remote settlements. We explore the use of alternative fuel types and drivetrains, their associated range anxiety or charging/refueling behavior.
